This is drunk a lot in Asia and is it known as ‘liquid gold’. A great comforting drink for the winter and especially if you feel you are ‘coming down with something’. I love a cup of this as part of my wind-down bed routine too.
- 1 cup of milk of your choice (I like almond or coconut milk)
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp ground ginger (or if you have Ginger Essential Oil you can use that.. I love the Young Living one)
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp cinnamon (optional)
Warm all the ingredients through in a sauce pan for a few minutes and serve when hot (just before it boils).
I find this sweet enough as it is but add some honey (make sure it is raw) or a drop of stevia to sweeten to taste as necessary.
Word of caution: turmeric stains work surfaces and cups so be careful. The good news is it does fade over time!
Turmeric is one of the most powerful and most studied herbs of all time. There are over 6,000 research articles on turmeric for it’s medicinal benefits due to it’s active compound curcurmin. An antioxidant, anti-inflammatory it is a natural alternative to painkillers, steroid and is even thought to have strong anti-cancer properties.
If I feel under the weather I will drink a cup before bed and 9 times out of 10 I wake up feeling 100% the next day. And it literally takes minutes to make!
Tip: Adding black pepper to turmeric enhances curcumin’s absorption meaning it is even more powerful and effective. A study in Planta Medica showed adding 20mg to 2000 mg turmeric improved absorbtion by 154%.
